Two photographs interwoven, scanned and printed. It allows for new and reimagined dialogues with history, place and time. Originally sourced from the personal archive of Oswald Grenville Smith, a soldier posted to Cairo between 1942-1944. There is something about this historic, global event encapsulated in photographs, telegrams and letters to his family that caught my imagination.
Having bought this small collection of letters and ephemera thirteen years ago, it continues to hold resonance thirteen years after their procurement. And it is only now that that Iām beginning to work with them
